Job Description and Person Specification

We are a busy charity providing financial administration and payroll services to individuals in receipt of direct payments from local authorities to fund their social and personal care.  Due to service expansion we are seeking to recruit a finance assistant to support Appointee and COP clients, which currently supports some 60 clients with paying their day to day bills and managing of their personal benefits.

This position would suit somebody who is keen to help individuals in the community that cannot manage their own finances whether it be lack of knowledge or lack of capacity. The position does need someone to have their own vehicle to enable them to attend various appointments. The ideal candidate would have previous experience in working with DWP and the intricacy of personal benefit entitlement.  In addition, you will be a competent IT user including Excel, Outlook and Word and be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

You will be expected to undertake the following:

  • Responsibility for claiming and managing benefits of the service user
  • Creation and monitoring of customer TFM system to ensure client is paying all bills and budget is suited to the individual
  • Ensuring the service user is receiving all benefits that they are entitled to
  • Ensuring all funds held for the client are being used in the client’s best interest
  • Maintaining client files to ensure accurate record keeping and that bills are paid on time
  • Ensure personal monies are made available for the service user
  • Liaise with the client on a regular basis which would include visiting them in their personal home
  • Ensuring DWP are informed on any change in the service users’ circumstances
  • Liaise with other professionals and care providers
  • Completion of DWP forms and financial assessments
  • Ensure all personal data of the service user is kept secure and under GDPR rulings
  • Responsible for keeping yourself up to date with benefit knowledge by attending training course and using gov.uk websites
  • Assisting COP officer with duties listed above
  • Assisting with any other duties that or may arise from time to time

Remuneration Package, Benefits & Terms:

  • 30 hours per week (flexible), 4 days per week
  • Workplace training will be given and, for a suitable candidate, training towards a professional qualification may be offered
  • £19,277.88 pro rata per annum (£9.88 per hour)
  • Annual training allowance of up to £1,000, reviewable annually
  • Discretionary bonus which has typically been 7.5% of basic salary
