Data Consultants sell business mailing lists and direct marketing data services using a consultative selling approach. Your objective is after locating the correct decision making contact; to determine the direct marketing objective and to effectively pitch Company business lists. You need to apply commercial understanding; an awareness of the Company database and the marketing objectives of others to produce a business list containing the right people, doing the right jobs in the right companies.
Typical clients either use marketing lists within their own marketing, or resell to others.
Data Consultants gain the opportunity to learn a great deal not only about sales within this interesting sector, but also expand their understanding about direct marketing, and how accurate and legally compliant business lists make a difference to business results.
What is the balance between new business acquisition (telephone prospecting) and account management?
So much of what we do is on the phone that after some initial induction and training you will cut your teeth on calling lapsed clients (people who we think have at some time been qualified as users of mailing lists). As understanding, knowledge and experience grows the balance shifts to account management (clients you have prospected yourself of those which you inherit).
Is there training when I start?
Yes, lots of it and very thorough, sales training, product training, coaching, role play, learning to plan your day, your activity, lots of help and guidance.
What experience is needed for my application to be considered?
Having some sales experience is sometimes useful although if you are bright, ambitious and a confident communicator and can show that you can pick things up quickly would be very welcome to apply. Sales and telesales in particular does test you in a way few jobs do. If you want to develop and do well, and you seek a challenging job (i.e. some frustrations and difficulties!) and want to learn and commit to always wanting to do better, then speak to us. If you don’t enjoy speaking to people, and some do say NO then telephone sales isn’t for you.
What are the challenges of the job?
We have a reputation for accurate business lists and quick and efficient service. The industry is increasingly competitive, there are companies who sell cheaper data, but significantly more inaccurate. Data protection legislation is also changing in May 2018. The real challenge is to apply business sense, good sales and negotiation skills with a sound sales process to enough potential clients each day, each week, each month.
