Our client is a Devon based charity providing a wide range of support services across the region.  A very rewarding opportunity has arisen within the Court of Protection Team for a Finance & Benefits Assistant. 

This position would suit somebody who is keen to help individuals who cannot manage their own benefits and finances whether due to a lack of knowledge or capacity.

They are ideally looking to recruit an individual on a 30 hour working week although as ever there can be some degree of flexibility in this.  The successful candidate will be entitled to ‘hybrid-working’ system once the probationary period of 3 months has been successfully completed.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have good experience of managing money/personal finance to include strong budgeting skills.  Experience or knowledge of benefit entitlement would be a bonus but not essential as full training is offered.

Additional the following skills and experience are required:

  • Competent IT skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work on own initiative and manage a caseload
  • Ability to work within a small team
  • Use of own vehicle and willingness to travel within Devon and Cornwall to meet individuals in their own homes (mileage paid)

The following are desirable requirements:

  • Experience of completing financial assessments
  • Knowledge of grants, schemes, reductions and exemptions for low income households
  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults

The Job

  • Responsible for claiming and managing benefits
  • Ensure that all funds held for the client are being used in their best interest
  • Responsible for budgeting individual clients and ensuring outgoings are within budget
  • Maintaining Client database and files to ensure accurate record keeping
  • Ensure personal money is made available for the client
  • Completion of Department  for Work and Pensions (DWP) forms and financial assessments for Local Authorities
  • Liaise with client
  • Liaise with Local Authorities, social workers and other professionals involved with the client
  • Ensure all personal data is kept secure and under GDPR rulings
  • Ensure benefit knowledge is kept up to date by attending training courses and using websites
  • Assist Court of Protection Officer with duties listed above
  • Assist with any other duties that may arise from time to time
