Operations Manager (Manufacturing Engineering) - Paignton - Devon

£35-40k per year - Manufacturing

To manage the day to day operations for the company’s manufacturing facilities, ensuring all production jobs and associated activities are completed in accordance with the time, cost and quality requirements needed to meet customers’ expectations.  Proven work experience within Production/Manufacturing industry at Management Level together with a comprehensive knowledge of engineering, manufacturing, and warehouse procedures essential. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE 

Manage the Manufacturing team including its supervisors including production, warehouse, purchasing and quality departments. Continuously improve the systems & processes in support of better stock management, production efficiency, quality, and cost. 

Production

  • Ensure the production supervisor is leading the production team.
  • Identifying and measuring KPIs for Production.

Vendor Management

  • Support the Stock Control Manager in managing all internal and external vendors. Attend vendor review meetings and pre-assess new vendors.
  • Oversee negotiations including prices and terms with suppliers. 

Materials Planning (MRP)

  • Ensure the Stock Control Manager is running the MRP process and placing appropriate order coverage and evaluate and review order schedules with critical suppliers.  

Inventory Management

  • Lead the development of the stock policy for all SKU's to optimise availability, minimise working capital, whilst accounting for seasonality and demand volatility.
  • Manage timely phase in/phase out product transitions to ensure effective life cycle management.
  • Liaise effectively, with suppliers and commercial areas, on inventory management initiatives to minimise stock outs and OSMI.
  • Oversee and approve the twice-yearly stock takes. 

Warehouse & Logistics

  • Oversee day to day warehouse & logistics management.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to optimise the Supply Chain and drive cost efficiencies for all warehousing & transport activities.
  • Lead the management and review of the Supply Chain operating procedures.
  • Ensure compliance on Brexit regulations on all imports and exports.

Quality/Health and Safety

  • Support the Quality Controller in ISO 9001 and 14001 audits.
  • Adhere to all quality procedures, liaise with the Quality team.
  • Work in accordance with the health and safety policy, ensure the production team always complies with health and safety regulations, report any non-conformances to the H&S team and the Directors. 

Management of Team

  • To delegate tasks to the appropriate team whenever necessary, ensure that staff are always motivated through direction, coaching, and encouragement.
  • To establish controls/KPIs and monitor performance, acting upon any issues where necessary.
  • To ensure that all staff go about their jobs with a sense of urgency and the required level of professionalism, and to carry out disciplinary action where necessary with assistance from HR.
  • Ensure any business-related objectives are communicated with the team. 

Reporting

  • Report all potential/actual stock shortfalls/discrepancies, health and safety non-conformances and any other risk to production/business to the directors immediately in line with company procedures. 

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Proven work experience within production/manufacturing industry at management Level.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of engineering, manufacturing, and warehouse procedures.
  • Key stakeholder management.
  • Lean management.
  • Commercial management.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Solid level of Education (degree level preferred).
  • Use of stock management systems.
  • Knowledge in the Microsoft Office Package.

Permanent full time position; 40 hours per week Monday-Friday. Competitive salary offered.
