Senior Software Engineer - Plymouth - Devon

Up to £50k - Digital and Tech
Ref: 303 Date Posted: Monday 19 Sep 2022

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Software Engineer to work for one of the fastest growing 360 tour companies in Europe.  Our clients system allows agents to create their own-branded 360 Tour and 2D floorplan from any high-quality 360 camera. With an impressive client list, their mission is to be the go-to listing solution for estate agents looking to WOW their vendors and simplify their working lives.

The Job

The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and making incremental updates to their existing systems and have the capability to work on new projects with potentially new technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop current systems that use PHP, MySQL, jQuery, CSS, HTML
  • Manage servers hosted in AWS and make informed recommendations on architecture to ensure they can scale and have redundancy
  • Write unit tests and front end Javascript tests
  • Thoroughly test each other’s work for bugs and ensure the code is robust
  • Push live updates to the site
  • Make changes to AWS lambdas (using node.js)
  • Maintain data scraping systems built in PHP, MySQL, jQuery and use basic maths operations to extract information from the data
  • Debug and add functionality to floorplan software. This uses 3D geometry, 2D geometry, and complex geometry algorithms
  • Build an API and work with external APIs

The Person

Quality is a key requirement for their systems. Our client is looking for someone who can ensure that stable builds are released and tested properly thoroughly. They carefully write their code and write thorough unit tests as they are building it. A “do extra checks if you aren’t sure” person is a good fit for them. Attention to detail is everything.

Skills & Experience:

  • A sound understanding of databases and servers
  • A sound understanding of building and maintaining APIs
  • A strong mathematics background would be ideal as the core software uses geometry to draw wireframes in a 3D space and join these wireframes into a 2D floorplan. Someone who has worked on a lot of graphical systems like OpenGL would be advantageous
  • The experience to solve problems and complete work to a high quality is a must!

Location

Our client is keen to build a great workplace culture and ideally prefer the team to work from the office in Plymouth, although they are open to hybrid working too.

Salary & Benefits

  • £40-50k based on experience
  • 32 days holiday
  • Company pension
  • Hybrid working model will be considered
  • Free parking
